Introducing: Jackman

Jackman Intro Header.jpg

We are thrilled to introduce Jackman to the James Dant Shop this week. We had heard fantastic things about Jackman's fabrics, but getting to actually feel them in person is an entirely astounding experience. They make some of the most dense, high-quality feeling cotton we've ever laid eyes on - and that's a high mark to hit considering the brands we currently carry.

Today we are launching five new silhouettes in a huge array of colors to kick off our offerings from Jackman. Dive in below!

Waffle Mid-Neck

We fell in love with Jackman’s Waffle Knit Caps for the same reason we fell in love with these Mid-Necks. We've seen a lot of waffles in 8 years of James Dant, but nothing quite like this. This cotton has a fluffy, cushy, incredible natural stretch to it. You just don't see waffles like this without being packed with synthetics. We think this is what makes Jackman waffle so sought after. This is the shirt everyone knows from them, and some people own it in just about every color!.

The waffle mid-neck is knitted in a unique way using extra-thick yarn. This soft and voluminous big waffle material is knitted with a special machine that knits slowly at low speed. The main sewing of the body is a flat seam with a flat seam allowance. The sewn part on the skin is flat, so it is very comfortable to wear.  Due to the characteristics of the material, the fabric stretches easily at the sewing stage, so the seamstresses reduce the speed of the sewing machine and sew carefully. From the writing of Jackman, "it is a product packed with ingenuity for long-term wear."

Fit Notes: Most people consider Jackman to fit small. We didn't really find that to be true. Shop owner Tommy is wearing a size medium in this and it fits pretty great. We also expect this waffle-knit to have quite a bit of stretch. And we've heard from many that these don't shrink in the wash. So we would say stick with your true size unless you are going for a bit of an oversized look. Scope those size charts though! Tommy is 5'10," 170lbs with a 40" chest.

Dostume Rib T-Shirt

If you're looking for the most dense pocket tee on the market - here it is. We've had tees from some of the hardiest manufacturers out there, and they don't hold a candle to these Dotsume tees. This is the type of tee shirt that makes you purge all the weaker, less quality version ones from your closet. The ribbing on the pocket and the gusseted feature that help them hold their shape and lay more flat, give these an extra something that we all look for in a tee.

A T-shirt made from a fabric that has been knitted with a hanging knitting machine and packed to the utmost limit. It is a durable and solid fabric, and the unevenness of the fabric surface is also characteristic. The pockets are elaborately gusseted and the edges are reinforced with rib binders.

Dotsume Skipper L/S T-Shirt

Dostume Skipper 11 Ash - $156

Just like the new pieces mentioned above, the Dostume Skipper is another example of Jackman’s outstanding textiles and abilities. The Dotsume Skipper is a nice variation on the classic long sleeve tee. With the triangle cut (skipper) neckline, the square cut hem, and the slightly boxy fit overall...this piece wears kind of like a fashion-forward poncho.

They've got a process for creating this amazing shirt. This is a long-sleeved T-shirt made from American cotton knitted with a hanging knitting machine while squeezing it to the utmost limit. By slowly knitting with a hanging knitting machine, the stitches are evenly clogged, and even after repeated wearing and washing, shrinkage and distortion are less likely to occur.

Fit Notes: Most people consider Jackman to fit small. We didn't really find that to be true. Shop owner Tommy is wearing a size medium in this and it fits pretty great. This piece is a little oversized. The reason some people might think their shirts fit small is because of the density. After a few wears, the natural stretch in the cotton makes these pieces relax to a point where they don't feel quite as dense. Essentially, they break in like denim. If you're worried about the density at all, jump up one size. You'll probably like the fit better. Tommy is 5'10," 170lbs with a 40" chest.

Waffle Knit Caps

Jackman grabbed our attention right away. The fabrics are on a whole other level, including these waffle knit caps. The 100% cotton waffle design will blow your mind. You're going to think there's stretch in the cap, but that is just how insanely good they are with technical natural knits in Japan. It is unlike anything we've ever felt. They are also made longer than a typical beanie we purchase. It makes this cap so versatile because if you don't like a watch cap look, you can wear it with just one roll. It also fits a huge variety of heads! These waffle caps have quickly become our favorite of the fall.

  • 100% Cotton

  • Waffle knit on big waffle rare knitting machine

  • Produced in Jackman factory in Fukui prefecture

Fit Notes: These pretty much fit any head. That's the beauty in them. The only people who will have real trouble are people with really small head circumferences. There may be just a little extra material in that case.
